Blood Sun I and II conjure a Malayan tiger-human hybrid as a spectral form that resists singular definition. Caught between human, animal, and machine, this figure embodies both the instability of form and the imperative of adaptation within precarious environments. More than a fantastical creation, the hybrid emerges as a response to ecological, political, and technological forces that continually reshape the conditions of survival.
Native to the Malayan Peninsula, the Malayan tiger carries the weight of extinction, colonial violence and capitalist extraction. Merging with human and machinic traits, it becomes a liminal body negotiating on the pressures of modernity, myth-making and futurity. In these looped animations, hybridity functions as both a strategy for survival and an act of speculation. The works imagines a future where adaptation and transformation are inseparable, where the boundaries between species and systems dissolve in mutable states. Within this flux, the hybrid refuses erasure, insisting on its presence amidst volatility and the ongoing cycles of (re)generation.
