Upgraded is a reproduction of a public art intervention titled absent-present, which was installed at a public housing block in early 2018. The gold mylar films exhibited for Upgraded are part of a series of 24 flags that was hung from the parapets of the HDB block and eventually removed by authorities. Each gold film bears a distinct red tag, signifying the manifold societal interpretations of culture, traditional beliefs, social-economic statuses, regulations and politics situated within the public housing system in Singapore.
